Tessera Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of Tessera — the browser extension and the web app. They are deliberately short. If something here does not match how the product behaves, treat it as a bug and tell us.

By signing in you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we hold and how deletion works.
1. What Tessera is
Tessera saves articles you choose to save, generates a summary and tags for each one, and answers questions using the articles in your own library. It is a personal reading tool, not a research service, an archive of record, or a backup service.
Tessera is free to use, which is why the usage limits in section 3 exist. We may introduce paid plans later; if we do, we will not quietly start charging for what you already have.
2. Your account
You sign in with Google. We do not issue passwords, so keeping your Google account secure is what keeps your Tessera account secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
One account per person. Do not create accounts to work around usage limits.
3. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- use automation to save pages in bulk, or otherwise generate load beyond ordinary personal reading;
- save content you do not have the right to store;
- attempt to access other people's accounts or data;
- probe, overload or interfere with the service or its infrastructure.
Tessera applies per-account usage limits to keep costs and load predictable. We may adjust those limits, and we may restrict or close an account that abuses the service or these terms.
4. AI output can be wrong
Summaries, tags and answers are generated automatically. They can be incomplete, misleading or simply wrong, even when they cite one of your articles. Check the source before relying on anything Tessera tells you, and do not use Tessera as your sole basis for a decision that matters.
5. Your content stays yours
The articles you save and the questions you ask remain yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service for you: to store that content, process it (including sending article text to OpenAI to produce summaries, tags and answers), and show it back to you. We do not claim ownership, and we do not use your content to train models of our own.
6. No warranty, and no guarantee of availability
Tessera is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that it will be available, error-free, or that your library will be preserved.
Tessera is a small project run by one person. We may change it, or stop running it altogether. If we shut it down we will give notice at the address on your account where we reasonably can. Tessera does not currently offer a data export, so if a saved article matters to you, keep your own copy of the original.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost content.
7. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. That erases your account and its contents; the Privacy Policy explains the one limit, which is content already processed by OpenAI.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches section 3, or stop the service as described in section 6.
8. Changes to these terms
If we change them we will update this page and the date above. For changes that materially affect you, we will surface a notice in the product rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
